This is a lead paper presented at the Second International Conference of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria, June 8th, 2026. The theme of the conference was "Technologies Powering Innovations in Academic Libraries." The paper focuses on the intervention of technologies in libraries of academic institutions. Through a critical review of literature, it traces the development of technology use in the delivery of library services, the digitisation of resources, and the readiness of institutions and libraries for technological adaptation. Technology adaptation models and theories are examined and the required knowledge and skills sets of providers of information and library services as well as patrons are discussed. Recommendations are made towards effective incorporation of technology in the provision of library resources and in overcoming the cost of the services.
